LASIK has advantages over other procedures

LASIK is the procedure most commonly performed refractive surgery. You can hear people called him the "Lasix," but the name is actually short for "laser in situ keratomileusis.

Why is it so popular? Stahl Eye Center has advantages over other procedures, such as the relative lack of pain afterwards and the fact that good vision is usually achieved by the next day.

An instrument called a microkeratome is used in LASIK to create a flap, thin circular on the cornea. Another way to make the flap with a laser.

The surgeon folds the flap of the road, then removes some tissue from the cornea by using an excimer laser. The excimer laser uses a beam of cool ultraviolet light to precisely remove ( "removal") in very small pieces of tissue from the cornea to reshape it.

When the cornea is reshaped in the right way, it works better to focus light into the eye and retina, providing clearer vision than before. The flap is then put in place, covering the area where the corneal tissue was removed.

The two people with myopic vision can benefit from LASIK. With nearsighted people, the goal is to flatten the cornea too high for people with vision, steeper cornea is desired. Although this is not widely recognized by consumers, excimer lasers also can correct astigmatism by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more normal shape.
